Training Programs for Laboratory Animal Technicians
Education and Training Program for New Laboratory Animal Technicians
All new animal care staff members receive on the job training from the animal care supervisors and are rotated to different facilities for further training.
Twice per month, there are staff training sessions covering a variety of topics such as:
- the biology, care, and use in research of common laboratory animal species;
- disease problems of laboratory animals and updates on health surveillance programs;
- topics relating to occupational health and safety;
- presentations by investigators on their areas of research using animals.
AALAS certification is encouraged by the provision of a salary incentive for passage of each AALAS certification level. Each and every member of the DAR animal technical staff is a member of the Southern California Branch of AALAS.
